Floats in water, making it a practical fetch toy for pool, lake, or beach play sessions with water-loving large breeds
Durable plastic material holds up to moderate chewing and repeated fetch sessions better than natural sticks
Stick-shaped design satisfies a large dog’s natural instinct to carry and retrieve without the splinter and injury risks of real sticks
Substantial large-size build provides enough length and weight for powerful throws and satisfying retrieves
Assorted colors add visual variety and make the toy easy to spot during outdoor fetch sessions
Material and Construction
The KONG Safestix Large is constructed from a durable, flexible plastic material that is designed to bend without breaking under normal play conditions. The smooth surface is easy for large dogs to grip and carry, while the flexible build allows the toy to move naturally when thrown or tugged. At 1.21 lbs, the large size provides a more substantial feel suited to bigger breeds. This is a moderate-duty fetch toy — built to withstand regular fetch play and light chewing, but not intended for aggressive or sustained power chewing. The material performs well in both wet and dry environments.
Texture, Size, and Play Duration Guidance
The Safestix has a smooth, flexible feel that is comfortable for large dogs to grip and carry in their mouths. The large size is appropriately scaled for bigger breeds, providing enough length for powerful throws and a satisfying retrieve experience. Play duration will vary based on the dog’s energy level and play style — fetch-driven large dogs will engage for extended sessions, while dogs that prefer chewing may interact differently. Monitor use and replace if the toy shows signs of significant wear or cracking.
Play Style and Functional Use
The KONG Safestix Large is designed primarily as a throw-and-fetch toy. Its flexible, stick-shaped form makes it easy to throw for distance and satisfying for large dogs to retrieve and carry back. The floating capability extends its use to water environments, where it can be tossed into lakes, pools, or shallow water for retrieval. It can also serve as a light carry toy or gentle tug toy during interactive play. Supervise play sessions and inspect regularly for wear, especially with large dogs that apply more force during play.
Safety, Usage, and Care Guidance
Supervise play sessions, particularly with large dogs that tend to chew rather than fetch
Inspect the toy regularly for cracks, splits, or significant wear; discontinue use if damaged
Select the appropriate size for your dog — large sizing is designed for large breeds
Do not leave unsupervised with aggressive chewers, as this is a fetch toy rather than a dedicated chew toy
Rinse thoroughly after water play and allow to dry before storage
Cleaning and Maintenance
Rinse the Safestix with clean water after outdoor or water play. Wipe down with a damp cloth to remove dirt or debris. The durable plastic surface does not absorb odors or bacteria the way fabric toys do, making maintenance straightforward. Inspect the surface for cracks or splits during cleaning and replace as needed.

A Note on Play Expectations
The KONG Safestix Large is a moderate-duty fetch toy built for interactive throw-and-retrieve play — not for sustained power chewing. Large dogs apply more force during play, so structured, supervised sessions will help extend the life of this toy and keep your dog engaged safely. Replace when cracks, splits, or significant wear are observed.
