Material & Construction
The KONG Whoopz Hedgehog is constructed with reinforced plush fabric featuring a distinctive spongy texture that sets it apart from conventional stuffed toys. The spongy exterior provides a different tactile experience during chewing and mouthing — softer and more compressible than standard plush, with a satisfying give that rewards interaction. Two squeakers are securely embedded within the elongated body, each producing a different tone to create auditory variety during squeeze and shake play. The reinforced construction is strategically applied to extend durability during shaking and moderate chewing. At 0.14 lbs, the toy is lightweight and easy for small dogs to manage during active play.
Texture, Size & Play Duration Guidance
The spongy exterior texture is the defining feature of this toy — it compresses and rebounds during mouthing and chewing in a way that standard plush does not, providing a more satisfying tactile reward. The elongated hedgehog shape creates natural grip points and dynamic movement during shake play. The small size is appropriate for dogs up to approximately 20 lbs — medium or large dogs may compress or breach the toy more quickly. Play engagement typically lasts 10–25 minutes per session depending on the dog’s interest in squeaker vs. texture interaction. Dogs motivated by both sound and tactile feedback will engage most consistently. Durability will vary based on individual chewing behavior and intensity.
Play Style & Functional Use
As a spongy plush squeaker toy, the KONG Whoopz Hedgehog supports shake play, dual squeaker interaction, chewing, carry play, and light indoor fetch. The elongated shape makes it particularly well-suited for shake-and-thrash sessions where the body moves dynamically and activates prey-drive instincts. The two distinct squeaker tones provide an auditory reward loop that keeps dogs re-engaging with the toy. The spongy texture adds a chewing dimension that standard plush toys lack. This toy is not designed for aggressive or sustained chewing — dogs who destroy plush toys rapidly should be monitored closely and transitioned to more durable options.
Safety, Usage & Care Guidance
Always supervise play, especially during initial introduction. Inspect the toy regularly for torn fabric, exposed squeakers, or significant wear — remove and replace the toy if any of these occur. Select the appropriate size for your dog; a toy that is too small presents a choking risk. Not recommended for aggressive chewers. Store in a dry location when not in use to maintain material integrity.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Spot clean with mild soap and warm water. Air dry completely before returning to your dog. Do not machine wash or tumble dry, as this may damage the spongy plush exterior and internal squeakers. Inspect seams after each cleaning.
