Material and Construction
The KONG Signature Sport Balls are built with an extra-thick rubber core that delivers a firm, dynamic bounce during fetch play. The exterior is wrapped in a non-abrasive felt material — softer and less abrasive than traditional tennis ball felt — making it more comfortable for dogs who mouth and carry their toys. The rubber construction provides moderate durability suited for regular fetch use. These are not designed for aggressive chewing and should be used primarily as fetch and chase toys.
Texture, Size, and Play Duration Guidance
The felt exterior has a soft, slightly textured feel, while the rubber core provides firmness and bounce. The XS size is scaled for extra-small breeds with smaller jaw sizes, making the ball easy to pick up, carry, and drop for retrieval. Play duration during fetch sessions will vary based on the dog’s energy level and interest. As with all rubber and felt toys, inspect regularly for wear and replace when the felt shows significant deterioration or the rubber shows cracking.
Play Style and Functional Use
Fetch Toy: The extra-thick rubber core produces a dynamic, lively bounce on hard surfaces and grass, encouraging repeated chase-and-retrieve behavior. The XS size rolls and bounces in a way that is appropriately scaled for small dogs. The absence of a squeaker keeps play sessions quieter, making these balls well-suited for indoor fetch in low-noise environments or for dogs that do not require sound-based stimulation to stay engaged.
Safety, Usage, and Care Guidance
Moderate supervision is recommended during play. Inspect balls regularly for signs of wear — cracked rubber, deteriorating felt, or deformation. Replace worn balls promptly to prevent ingestion of rubber or felt material. Ensure the XS size is appropriate for your dog; do not use undersized balls with larger breeds. Store in a dry location when not in use.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Spot clean with a damp cloth as needed. Allow balls to air dry completely before returning them to your dog. Avoid machine washing, as this may break down the felt exterior and rubber construction over time. Inspect the felt and rubber surface after each play session for signs of deterioration.
