Material and Construction
The KONG Sport Softies Ball is constructed with a fuzzy sherpa fleece exterior layered over a dynamic rubber core. The fleece surface provides a soft, gentle contact point for small dogs during carry and retrieval, while the rubber core delivers the bounce responsiveness associated with KONG’s sport ball line. This light-duty construction is appropriate for small dogs with light-to-moderate chewing habits and is not designed to withstand sustained or aggressive chewing. The squeak-free build eliminates internal components, keeping the construction simple and reducing the risk of part separation during play.
Texture, Size, and Play Duration Guidance
The Sport Softies Ball has a soft, fuzzy feel on the exterior with a firm, responsive core — a combination that suits dogs who enjoy both active fetch play and quiet carrying or comfort behavior. The small size is proportioned for small breeds and provides an appropriate mouth fit for safe retrieval and carry. Engagement duration will vary based on individual dog behavior; dogs with strong fetch drive typically sustain moderate play sessions, while dogs drawn to comfort carrying may engage with the toy independently over longer periods. Monitor chewing behavior closely, as the fleece exterior is not designed for sustained chewing and may show surface wear with repeated chewing contact.
Play Style and Functional Use
Fetch Toy
The dynamic rubber core delivers a responsive, lively bounce that supports structured fetch sessions indoors and outdoors. The soft fleece exterior provides a comfortable mouth grip during retrieval without the firmness of a standard rubber or tennis ball. The small size and lightweight build make it easy to throw and retrieve for small breeds.
Plush Toy
The sherpa fleece exterior supports comfort carrying and light snuggling behavior between active play sessions. This toy is appropriate for light comfort use and should be monitored during any chewing interaction, as the fleece surface is not constructed for chew resistance. Supervision is recommended whenever the toy is in use.
Safety, Usage, and Care Guidance
Moderate supervision is recommended during all play sessions. Inspect each toy regularly for signs of fleece separation, core exposure, or surface breakdown — discontinue use and replace if structural integrity is compromised. Select toy size appropriate to your dog’s breed and mouth size; the small size is intended for small breeds and is not suitable for medium or large dogs. Rotate between the three balls to distribute wear evenly and extend the usable life of each toy. Store in a dry location when not in use to preserve the fleece exterior.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Hand wash with mild soap and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely before returning to use. Do not place in the dishwasher. Spot cleaning is suitable for light soiling. Inspect the fleece exterior after each cleaning for signs of separation or wear.
