Material and Construction
The Barkus is constructed with rough-and-tough polyester twill fabric, reinforced with strapping-strong trim binding for added durability at stress points. The body is stuffed with fiberfill, while the long ears are left unstuffed and made with crinkle material for a distinct crunchy texture. An internal squeaker is embedded in the body to deliver consistent sound response during play. All materials are non-toxic, making this a safer choice for interactive dog play.
Texture, Size, and Play Duration Guidance
The polyester twill exterior has a firm, textured feel compared to standard soft plush toys, offering more resistance during grabbing and shaking. The long, unstuffed crinkle ears are soft and flexible — easy for small dogs to grip, carry, and flail. At 5 inches, the compact form factor is proportioned for comfortable mouthing, retrieval, and active shake play in small breeds. Play duration will vary by individual dog — dogs motivated by sound and texture will engage for extended sessions, while more determined chewers should be monitored closely.
Play Style and Functional Use
As a fetch toy and shake toy, the Barkus is best used for active play sessions where the owner encourages grabbing, tossing, and retrieval. The long crinkle ears serve as a natural handle for small dogs to latch onto and shake, mimicking prey behavior. The squeaker adds an auditory reward loop that sustains engagement across fetch and chase-style interaction. This toy is not designed for unsupervised aggressive chewing.
Safety, Usage, and Care Guidance
Moderate supervision is recommended during play. Inspect the toy regularly for torn seams, exposed fiberfill, or squeaker damage — replace immediately if compromised. Ensure the 5-inch size is appropriate for your dog to reduce the risk of accidental ingestion of small parts. Store in a clean, dry location when not in use.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Spot clean or surface wipe with a damp cloth as needed. Avoid machine washing or high-heat drying, as these methods can damage the polyester twill fabric, crinkle material, and internal squeaker. Allow to air dry fully before returning to use.
